Spring Break Edition Part III

Y'all probably weren't expecting a part 3, right, neither was I. I just hated that I wasn't sharing anything (also might be dealing with boredom...lol), so here I am, providing and sharing what I and my new contributor, Layu have with all of you. Again if you want to contribute your old school albums, just email me and I'll post it here for you. I won't be using Filefront ever again (where there's supposed to be a link, it's been deleted because Filefront deleted the account), I will be using Megaupload, Sendspace, Jumbofile, and Zshare in the future. The albums below may be password protected, if so the pw is in the comment section. Hope you all enjoy and we will back to business as usual next week!

Throwbacks of the 90's

Changing Faces
All Day All Night (1997)
(courtesy of Layu...thanks!)

IV Xample
For Example (1995)
(courtesy of Layu...thanks!)

Now, I've never heard of this group, but Layu says they're really good. Being that she has provided good music this far, I trust her judgement. She also writes (hope you didn't mind me sharing) "that this is an exclusive that not too many people know of. They never had a hit, but [are] really worth listening to. If you ever had your heart broken, listen to 'Getting Over You' "

Vertical Hold
A Matter Of Time (1993)

I've got to back track a minute. I wrote that Zhane ushered in what we now call Neo-Soul, well I've got to add Vertical Hold to that group too. They along with Zhane helped us realize at that point in time in music, that there was much more than hip-hop and hip-hop laced R&B tracks for us young people to listen to. Yes, that's Ms. Angie Stone on the cover, before she broke out into a solo artist. Pretty good debut, but between their two releases, I prefer "Head First" instead (which I'll share at a later date ...)

Throwbacks of the 80's

The System
Don't Disturb This Groove (1987)

"Hang a sign up on the door that says, don't disturb this groooooooove"!! I loved that song! I grew up thinking that Al b. Sure recorded it, but no, a duo called "The System" did instead. Can't comment on the rest of the album because the first track "Don't Disturb This Groove" I can't get past, I have it on constant repeat.

***Blue's has their debut album, "Sweat" on his blog, so check it out!***

Whitney Houston
Whitney (1987)
(courtesy of Layu...thanks!)

I still have this album on wax...telling my age huh...lol. Loved it from beginning to end. This along with her debut and "The Bodyguard" Soundtrack are classics, just Whitney at her best. People can say all the bad things they want about her, but she did have great songs along with a great voice (though I can't say much about her voice now ... :-( )

New Edition
New Edition (1984)

This is the album that made me a New Edition fan! Classic hits "Mr. Telephone Man" and "Cool It Now"...which I still know the whole little rap to...lol...made them a favorite of mine. I didn't know however that Bow-Wow's summer hit, "Like You" was a sampling of "I'm Leaving You Again".

Another great site to visit is Blue's Away . He has great oldies there, alot of music from the 70's and 80's (even the 90's), overall an assortment for the ears spanning many decades. Also Secret Garden , for all of you who are into mellow, laid-back music and Knotie for the same type of music as well. So if you can't find what you're looking for here, check their sites out along with the others listed to the right. And for those wondering, Neo-Souljah will be back with his offerings of Neo-Soul and Soul music. Look for his page this weekend or next week.

A fan of gospel music, then check out The Gospel Fill-Up. If you know someone who is, let them know about the site, they'll be glad you told them.

This week at The Fill-Up, the Old School Friday album is

Hezekiah Walker & The Love Fellowship Crusade Choir
Live in Atlanta at Morehouse College (1994)

Be sure to check out the Spring Break Edition there too. There's music by Martha Munizzi, Chicago Mass, Walt Whitman & The Soul Children of Chicago, and The Singletons.

  • Sorry, I was just messing around with pw protection, but the pw for Vertical Hold and The System is
www.thethrowbacks.blogspot.com , that's for sure, because I opened the file with that password just a minute ago.

The pw for New Edition, I don't know. I thought I put the same password for all three albums, but guess not. I'll reup later this week. Thanks for letting me know.
